1844-1864

Abstract

John Taylor Cuddy was a resident of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Cuddy worked in his family's distillery until he enlisted in the Union Army in 1861, just shy of 17 years old. Cuddy represented one of the many Union soldiers who fought for the preservation of the United States and feared the emancipation of enslaved black people would compromise a Union victory. This site seeks to provide biographical and creative tools to humanize John T. Cuddy and recommend  approaches to remembering historical figures.
